preservation

this project was done right after the war broke. my mental health was at its lowest and i found it hard to see meaning in the creative process, i struggled to justify art in the face of death.
people lost lives and homes and making another tea pot seemed pathetic.
i knew i had to hold on to sanity in some way to keep going.
clay is a material that survives heat, time, natural disaster - and so using these characteristics to preserve beauty and memories was my coping mechanism.
my mom has prepared an emergency backpack when we first moved to israel and were faced with the new reality.
she packed all the things that we would want to have in physical form if our house would be bombed- passports, id's insurance.
i thought, if the house would burn down i am sure any pottery would would remain- what is a fire to clay and glaze but the very thing that solidifies it.
during two projects i took tulips, which are my favourite flowers and childhood photographs and attempted to recreate them out of porcelain.
porcelain when thin is paper like, i wanted the petals and photographs to be as close as they could to the real thing- but now preserved forever, to be found by future archeologists.
